The Politics of Possibility

An interesting quote from Pope John Paul II:
"The historical experience of socialist countries has sadly demonstrated that collectivism does not do away with alienation but rather increases it, adding to it a lack of basic necessities and economic inefficiency. Be not afraid!"
It may be that the capitalist, market driven society we live in today is less than perfect.  Indeed, only a blind man could miss this fact.  But the reality of history has shown us this system is, at worst, the best of a bad lot and.  At it's best, it is the only system that allows for, and indeed promotes, the progress of each individual towards blossoming into the essence of all we can be as persons created in the very image of God.
